BASS
Bass anglers have declared that this is the best summer bite they have seen yet. Most bass have been holding between 10-25 feet and biting on a variety of baits. Fisherman just could not lose with the drop shot using oxblood, morning dawn, and prism shad. Texas rigged brushogs or lizards in watermelon colors, flukes combined with underspins, fat Ikas and Senkos have all done well.
TROUT
There has been drastic improvement in the trout fishing at DVL. Boaters have had their best luck trolling nightcrawlers, Rapalas, Excel lures, or Needlefish 35-50 feet down. The west dam, the saddle dam and along restroom 3 have been common spots for trout.
STRIPER
There were no striper reports this week Trout swim baits, Plugs or large topwater baits were the most reported lures for striper.
CATFISH
The DVL catfish bite cannot be stopped. Great spots for catfish are the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the east dam or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and shrimp. Most catfish have been found between 10-20 feet. Alan Burghardt of Apple Valley got a 10.20 pound catfish in the third cove fishing with mackerel. Wade Hagan of Menifee got the biggest catfish of the week weighing 22.5 pounds. He was fishing the south shore with shad.
PANFISH
There were few panfish reports this week, but most anglers have the best luck fishing along the dams, specifically near the stairways. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worm or jigs dropped to 25 feet has been a consistent method.
